About e-Inclusion (Formerly known as 'Web Care')

Background

The rapid development of the Internet has brought about many benefits to all walks of life, such as:
- New ways of doing business
- Improvements to quality of life

However, some under-privileged groups are unable to enjoy these benefits that Internet has brought about due to limitations in web accessibility. These groups include the disabled, the elderly, the sick, the poor, as well as some groups of women and children.

We Believe that

  • everyone should have equal opportunity to enjoy the benefits brought about by advanced information technology
  • information technology should bring us together, not separate us
  • widening of the digital divide will give rise to economic, political and social unrest, hence it is in everyone's interest to narrow the digital divide
  • Thus, members of iProA came together to form the e-Inclusion Committee and launched the e-Inclusion Campaign.

Our Objective is to champion measures, tools, and programmes that would contribute to

  • narrow the digital divide
  • broaden the circle of beneficiary of information technology

The e-Inclusion Campaign, initiated by iProA and supported by some 50 organisations, aims to promote a barrier free Internet environment and provide the needy communities with equal opportunities in sharing the benefits brought about by the development of Internet in Hong Kong. A series of activities have been launched under the Campaign in its inauguration in August 2001. Two major activities in the series are the 'Web Care Award' and the 'Unified Internet Training Programme (UITP)'. We hope the spirit of e-Inclusion can be rooted into everyone's heart through the Campaign.
