The 2008-09 Budget

Mr. John Tsang Chun-wah, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong SAR, announced the 2008-09 Budget yesterday. The budget outlined Hong Kong's economic and financial position as well as Mr. Tsang's principles of public finance management. In retrospect, the economy in 2007 was vibrant, as evidenced by the strong GDP growth at 6.3%. Hong Kongˇ¦s overall economy continued to rebound last year since the economic downturn. These factors are all indicative of Hong Kong's economy continues to benefit from the rapid growth of our nation and the steady development of the global economy.

iProA is pleased that the budget has responded to some of our major advocacies. In particular, the launch of pilot scheme to establish District Cyber Center, was proposed to the OGCIO in June 2006 under our initiative - Internet Community Drive. Other major IT related issues and our responses can be found in the attached press release or click here for Chinese version or here for English version. The full version of the budget can be downloaded via http://www.budget.gov.hk/. iProA will continue to voice out our members' concerns to the related government departments and your comments towards the budget and other government policies are most welcomed. Should you have any comments to be raised, please feel free to email to our Chief Executive, Mr. Gary Chao at gary@iproa.org.
