Alarm to Hong Kong's Global Competitiveness -

Declining trend of the city's ICT development

In the recently released Global Information Technology (GIT) Report 2006-07 by the World Economic Forum (WEF), Hong Kong’s ranking keeps declining for the third year in the Networked Readiness Index (NRI). The Index measures the degree of preparation of a nation or economic region to invest in and benefit from information & communication technology (ICT) developments.

As an industry association dedicated to advocate applying ICT to enhance the economic prosperity of Hong Kong, the Internet Professional Association (iProA) is seriously concerned about this alarming trend. The iProA will hold a press conference to examine the following issues:

  • An alarming trend of declining ICT competitiveness in Hong Kong

  • Why does this matter? What are the implications to Hong Kong?

  • The strategic value of ICT to Hong Kong’s economy and Global Competitiveness

  • Comparison between Hong Kong’s NRI in WEF’s GIT Report with that of other countries

  • How should Hong Kong react?
