Events ˇ@ Digital Agenda Forum: the challenge of copyright in digital age ˇ@ In response to the increasing public concern on Internet privacy and the protection of copyright in the digital era, the Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau launched a new phase of copyright law review in December 2006. The aim of the consultation exercise is to seek public views on issues related to further strengthening the existing legal protection for copyright. Against this backdrop, public discussions on legal liability for unauthorized downloading of copyright works and role of online service providers in relation to combating internet piracy prevails in the industry.
To encourage dialogue of the stakeholders from different sectors and various IT associations, Mr. Sin Chung-kai, Legislative Councillor (IT) organized the ˇ§Digital Agenda Forum: the challenge of copyright in digital ageˇ¨, on 26 April 2007 at the Hong Kong Productivity Council. Mr. Stephehen R. Selby, Director of Intellectual Property, Intellectual Department, had graced the occasion by delivering a keynote address. Our Founding President, Mr. Ringo LAM, who is also the Convenor of Digital Content Alliance, was invited to be a panelist at the roundtable discussion (please click here for the conference program). The event had brought together the copyright owners, users, ICT industry players such as applications developers, content providers and Internet service providers, as well as the government officials to understand the views and positions of the stakeholders from different sectors and to conduct in-depth discussion on how to strike a reasonable balance between competing interests. It is hoped that the event will foster regular dialogue and future collaborations between the ICT sector and copyright owners. ˇ@ ˇ@
