About the Workshop
In Hong Kong, individuals' awareness and expectation of their rights in relation to personal data privacy has reached an unprecedented level after recent incidents of corporate malpractices in the use of personal data. Data protection has become a vital component to the success of business in building employee trust and enhancing corporate image. If your business involves the collection and use of personal data, it is important that your staff are fully up-to-date and compliant with the requirements under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance ("the Ordinance").
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data ("PCPD") has developed a series of professional workshops on data protection tailored to the needs of those dealing with personal data in different work contexts. Participants will work through guidance notes issued by the PCPD and practical scenarios with expert guidance from PCPD’s experienced trainers or commissioned consultants.
Upon completion of the workshop, participants will possess a solid knowledge of data protection law, as well as an understanding of the practical implications of the legal requirements under the Ordinance. The biggest unconference in town is back again! Last year we had 70 sessions and over 700 participants ... but it was just a tad too hot standing in the sun, wasn't it?
So we've moved BarCamp to November this year and everything is going to happen indoors — with air conditioning! Whew!
|
The newly-completed Creative Media Centre at the City University of Hong Kong is a stunning piece of architecture that you won't be able to take your cameras off of!
We're excited to be hosting the 5th BarCamp Hong Kong at this special venue packed with proper presentation equipment and generous amounts of communal space.

 |
 |
- All registration will take place on our Eventbrite page to make check-in faster and donations possible.
- The schedule will be put online this year, so we won't have the sweaty madness at the wall like last time (don't worry, we'll still have the wall for you hardcore BarCampers).
- We ditched the guy who f*cked up our shirts last year, and found a new printer to make us some nice ones this year. We also decided to not include sponsor logos on them, which means we'll be selling them (at cost). It's only $80 if you pre-order now or $100 on the day.

Plan, Integrate, Manage Future Business Services
As cloud technologies and services have matured and user understanding of their capabilities improved, likewise the position of cloud in the market has changed. Initially seen as a discrete and interesting set of technologies with which to address specific technology and some business issues, it is clear to IDC that cloud is now moving from disruptive technology to mainstream business enabler – cloud will no longer be an IT operations matter, but an innovation in business service delivery.
As the organization embarks on this journey to the hybrid cloud, it is imperative that any new projects are planned and executed in such a way as to take advantage of current and emerging cloud technologies and services.
You are cordially invited to join IDC's Asia Pacific Cloud Conference 2011 that looks forward to the likely scenarios for the use of cloud technologies and explores the essential steps in future-proofing IT infrastructure and applications. It will provide guidance on each of the essential steps towards a hybrid cloud environment: How to plan, design, implement, integrate and, ultimately, manage tomorrow's hybrid cloud environment.
Register yourself for a complimentary seat now. See you on 22 November!
