Dear iProA Members & Friends,
The weather is hot and so are the hearts of internet professionals. Since iProA was founded more than 10 years ago, it has been dedicated to its key missions by bridging the digital divide at various levels in the community. I am glad to see the growing recognition of the importance of digital inclusion in various sectors, including government, NGOs and business. More and more people are joining our efforts to promote Hong Kong to be a digitally inclusive society.
Celebrating the success of the District Cyber Center Alliance (DCCA) for more than one year, an Award Ceremony was organized in March. On June 3rd morning, the newly appointed Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Ms. Elizabeth Tse, visited the DCC of Tuen Mun Woman’s Associations. She was very impressed by the work of the center where she was introduced to the services offered by the Mobile Laptop Library, including organizing field trips for the elderly, and teaching them how to take digital photos, upload and share the photos with other people. This year we will extend the coverage of District Cyber Centers to 57 locations. We have also started a new program for the elderly in collaboration with the Cyber Senior Portal.
The Web Care Campaign is also on the hottest preparation stage in this summer. Led by Ms. Yvonne Wong, the Web Care Award has included Web 2.0 elements since last year and received wide support from its audience. Application for the Award has started in July, please recommend your friends to participate and further spread the message of promoting barrier-free internet usage.
School Web Care Campaign does not see a break in the Summer holidays. Featuring healthy use of Internet, the Campaign has organized workshops for parents; interesting events such as the Cyber Cafe Tour, Harmonious and Inclusive e-Generation Seminars and Online Quizzes are also coming. Please encourage parents, teachers and students to join our series of activities and share the joy of learning in through the Internet.
I enjoy very much with my teammates, colleagues and friends from the ICT industry and other sectors in the eInclusion initiatives of iProA over the years. I sincerely hope that we can continue to get your support and work together to push new frontier in the digital economy.
With kind regards,
Witman Hung
Vice President of Internet Professional Association
